Common questions
Do I need a subscription to use the hardware?
Yes — the Pi 5 and Pro Hub run TinyGuard software that requires an active facility subscription. The cameras are standard RTSP devices and would work with other platforms if you ever leave us, but you'd need to flash them yourself.
Can I bring my own cameras?
Yes. Any RTSP/ONVIF camera works. If you already have cameras, just buy a device (Pi 5 or Pro Hub) — we'll auto-discover and pair them. Wyze, Ring, and Arlo don't work because they don't expose a local stream.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — the subscription is month-to-month with no lock-in, so you can cancel whenever you like. Annual plans save ~17% if you'd rather prepay.
What's the cart limit?
Up to 50 different items, 50 units per line item. If you're ordering more (e.g. multi-location brand), email Del and we'll generate a single quote and invoice.
How does the Pi 5 handle so many cameras?
Live video is H.264 passthrough — zero re-encode cost on the wire — so the Pi 5 serves up to 8 cameras live. Recording is the real workload: it runs SVT-AV1 encode at preset 13, about 50% CPU per camera, so the Pi 5 records up to 6 cameras comfortably. Need every camera recorded beyond six? The Pro Hub uses Intel Quick Sync hardware AV1 and scales to 25+ cameras at low CPU.
What about audio recording?
Cameras can record audio but it's OFF by default. 14 US states require all-party consent for audio recording (CA, CT, DE, FL, IL, MA, MD, MI, MT, NV, NH, OR, PA, WA). Get written parental consent before enabling audio in the Setup panel. Full architectural framing in our audio-off covenant.
