TinyGuard operates as a HIPAA Business Associate. Video transits encrypted Cloudflare Tunnels (TLS 1.3) — no open ports on your network — and cloud recordings are AES-256-encrypted at rest in Cloudflare R2. Access is controlled through role-based permissions with device-bound authentication and per-facility tenant isolation enforced at the database. Enterprise customers execute a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA); see the BAA for our subprocessor list and current downstream-BAA status.

Our system captures all six federally-required EVV data points automatically (type, individual, date, location, provider, time-in/out) and exports in Sandata- and HHAeXchange-compatible formats. State-level certification is being rolled out by region — we're prioritizing the states our customers operate in. If your state isn't certified yet, we can typically add it within 60–90 days for open-vendor states; closed-vendor states (e.g. California's Sandata mandate) take longer.

In most cases, yes. If your cameras support ONVIF, our appliance will auto-discover them on your network. We also support USB cameras and manual RTSP stream configuration. During onboarding, our team will verify compatibility at no cost.

The on-premise node continues recording locally to its on-board storage. Staff can access camera feeds and the system via tinyguard.local on your LAN. When internet is restored, the agent automatically syncs the buffered EVV records, care logs, and video segments to the cloud. Local storage is bounded by the device's disk; in a multi-day outage that exceeds available local capacity, the oldest local segments roll off. As with any system, hardware loss or physical destruction of the device before sync can result in data loss — operate your facility's customary backup and physical-security practices.

Each facility gets a branded portal where authorized family members can view care updates, activity logs, and — if you enable it — live camera feeds of common areas. Families receive push notifications for care events, and all access is controlled through role-based permissions.

Cameras can record audio but audio capture is OFF by default. 11 US states require all-party consent for audio recording (CA, CT, DE, FL, IL, MA, MD, MT, NH, PA, WA — and OR for some contexts under the 2026 update). Before enabling audio in any room, your facility is responsible for obtaining written informed consent from residents, staff, and any other individuals who may be recorded. TinyGuard's compliance dashboard requires 100% signature coverage per room and blocks audio activation until the gap is closed. See our audio-off covenant for the full architectural framing. Enabling audio without the required consents can carry federal and state wiretap-law penalties — review your state law and confirm consent before flipping the toggle.
